Power Auctions LLC is a leading international provider of expert auction services and state-of-the-art web-based auction software for high-stakes auctions. We have run well over 300 high-stakes auctions on six continents, including the recent 5G spectrum auctions for the US (FCC), Canada and Australia; offshore wind right auctions for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (U.S. Department of Interior), rough diamond auctions for Botswana; and the annual forward capacity auction for ISO New England.  Our auction projects are always interesting.  We are well-known in our field, have strong connections to economics professors at a number of universities, and hold a number of patents in auction design.


Power Auctions is looking for 2-3 summer interns to work with its Quality Assurance team testing its specialized auction software.  Ideal candidates should be pursuing a degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, and/or physics.  We have opportunities for graduate students and for undergraduate students with a strong academic record.  Attention to detail and good writing skills are essential.  Previous software testing experience desirable but not essential.   Ability to read mathematical formulas and understand supply and demand curves is essential. 

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in computer science, economics, mathematics,  or physics.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.5
  • Solid oral and written English communication skills and ability to express complex ideas clearly and succinctly in writing
  • Enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced and dynamically changing environment
  • Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Ability and patience to pay attention to detail
  • US Citizen preferred

 

Desired Experience

 

  • A class in game theory or micro economics a plus
  • Exposure to technologies such as Ruby on Rails, HTML/CSS, Ajax/javascript is helpful
  • A class in Operations Research is helpful
